Dieting...

So, about a month ago I decided to lose some weight.  I'm 5'10" tall and I was sitting at 232lbs and a BMI of 33.28, well in the range of "obese."  I made the decision based on the fact that my 38" waist jeans were getting VERY tight and if I gained any more weight I was going to have to start buying new pants. Again.  With the holidays coming soon, I had to do something.  So I decided to put myself on the HMR program with a target weight of 175lbs.  I had weighed that much as late as 2002 and I felt pretty good about myself at that weight.

I'm now almost exactly 4 weeks into the diet and I weighed in this morning at 213.0lbs (a BMI of 30.56, only 4 more pounds needed to be merely "overweight").  A very good start I think.  I'm already down a full belt notch and I now fit into some of my baggier 36" waist pants and my 38" pants are feeling very loose.

The tradeoff on all of this is the lack of variety in food, and a lack of energy due to the lower calorie consumption.  To combat this I have started exercising again (I'm taking it very slowly right now).  I purchased a treadmill, took delivery of it on Thursday and have done 2 sessions at about 45 minutes per.

I'm hopeful that by the time New Year's Day rolls around that I'll be in the range of 190, starting to lift weights again and jogging on the treadmill rather than walking on it.
