Watching the news in the United States

I have a request for anyone who happens along to read my blog.  It's a bit time consuming, but I also think a bit eye opening.

Watch 30 minutes of the Fox News Channel (The cable news network not your local Fox affiliate).

Then, immediately after, watch 30 minutes of CNN.

Then, again, immediately after, watch 30 minutes of the BBC World News America.

Then, the next day, read the New York Post newspaper.  Immediately after, read the New York Times, then immediately after read The Guardian.

After you are thoroughly disgusted by the utter joke that is the US news media, feel free to explore RAI, or Deutsche Welle or any other high quality news organization.  As it stands now, our news media simply has no respect for us.  I don't think there is a grand conspiracy here (other than on the part of the Murdoch news orgs) but I do think that the need for ratings as opposed to a sense of journalistic integrity is utterly destroying our ability to keep track of what is happening in the world.

There are a grand total of 3 newspapers in the US worthy of attention.  The NY Times, The Washington Post, the LA Times.  Even these 3 are not even close to the weekly news magazine, The Economist (which is horribly biased towards neo-liberalism but still at least reports on world events).

If, after spending any amount of time reading or watching the recommended news sources anyone actually thinks that Murdoch's papers are remotely worthy of attention or aren't in any way simple propaganda tools then I would humbly suggest that individual reaches into the clue-bag and picks up a clue.
